How long is the dance year?
The dance year follows the traditional school calendar; We start in September and run until June.
How is tuition paid?
Tuition is paid monthly, at your child's first class that month. We accept cash or check for payment.
What is the dress code?
All students must wear leotards and tights to every class (with the exception of Hip Hop). Hair must be pulled away from the face and, most importantly, proper dance shoes must be worn.
Can I observe my child during class?
Visitors are not permitted in either of our dance rooms while class is in session. Young children have a limited attention span and are very easily distracted. All parents are welcome to wait for their children in our reception area where we have television monitors to watch your child's class in progress.
How many days a week do I bring my child?
Each class runs once a week.
What do I do if my child needs to miss a class?
In case of absence or illness, we offer a make-up class that your child can take on a different day. You can speak with our receptionist for the make-up class day and time. We do not offer deductions or refunds to tuition for absence for any reason.
Is there a registration fee?
Our registration fee is $40 and applies to the entire dance year. Additional siblings get a reduced registration fee of $35.
Do you have any performances?
All of our students are invited to perform in our recital at the end of the school year. Participation in the annual recital is not required, however it is the highlight of the season for all of our students.
For our students age 7 and older who want the experience of performing throughout the year, we have a Performance Team they can be a part of.
I don't know if my child will like dance. Can he/she take a trial class or observe?
In the beginning of the season, we have many new students trying dance for the first time. Because of this, our instructors are sensitive to their needs in those first few weeks to ensure they feel comfortable and they are having fun. We only offer a single trial lesson if the student is extremely shy or if he/she is starting the dance season after October. In these cases, you may come in and pay for only the one class your child takes. After your child decides that he or she would like to continue, you will be required to pay the registration fee and the rest of the months tuition at the next class.
Why does your school have age requirements for certain classes?
The faculty at Gotta Dance is not only concerned with making sure your child is having a fun time in class, we are also concerned with giving him or her the best dance education possible. It is because of this reason that we offer certain styles of dance once a student has reached a certain age where their bodies can successfully handle that style without injury. In other cases, we believe students at a very young age simply can not perform the movements of more advanced dance styles until their bodies develop more basic coordination and we feel it is unfair to let you pay for a class that your child may be too young to be successful at. We firmly believe in teaching skills and styles of dance correctly and with your child's safety and success in mind.
