Dress Rehearsal

Dress Rehearsal is the day we practice our Recital on stage. It gives ALL the participants both onstage AND backstage) a chance to run through the show and get a feel for how the real show will go the next day. A dress rehearsal is imperative for a show to run smoothly. It is also an exciting day for our dancers as they get an "extra" chance to dance on stage and a chance to watch the other routines from the audience!

Rockette Workshop with Keisa Parrish

Gotta Dance is proud to present a special two-hour workshop with former Radio City Rockette - Keisa Parrish! Keisa was the "CELEBRITY" guest at our Gotta Dance Kicks Breast Cancer Event in October. After seeing how wonderful she was with each dancer that posed with her for a photo, we are excited to welcome her back for our own "Rockette Experience" right here in Elmwood Park!

Keisa Parrish began her dance training at the infamous tap studio, Universal Dance Designs where she performed with the likes of Michael Jackson. While earning a BFA degree from Fordham University's joint program with the Ailey School and performing at the Ailey School's Spring Gala with Ronald K. Brown, she became a Radio City Rockette.

During Keisa's four seasons with the Radio City Rockettes, she performed in the Christmas Spectacular, did a print ad for Bloomingdale's and performed all over the tri-state area. Keisa has been teaching and choreographing for the past 17 years. Her various schools include Harlem School of the Arts, Dancers Inc. Competition, the Rockette Experience as well as many other dance studios in the Tri-State area. Currently Keisa is the Artistic Director and Manager of Next Step Broadway Dance Studio and the Rehearsal Director of Northern Valley Dance Academy.

Holiday Show at Giggles Theater - St. Joe's Children's Hospital

The Gotta Dance Performance Team will be performing their Holiday Show at St. Joseph's Children's Hospital. Many do not know that inside St. Joseph's Childrens hospital contains a small theater named Giggles Theater. We are very excited to share our talents with the community in the hopes of spreading cheer this time of  year!

Here is an excerpt about the theater from the St. Joseph's website:

"At Giggles, our passion is to uplift, enlighten and inspire sick children to overcome their environment not only in the hospital, but at home as well. From the many parents asking if their children may still attend Giggles shows even after they return home, came our secondary mission - to enhance the level of access that the Paterson community has to cultural and artistic programs. Arts programs like Giggles help to improve the quality of life of residents. According to Arts Watch, “University of Pennsylvania researchers have demonstrated that a high concentration of the arts in a city leads to higher civic engagement, more social cohesion, higher children welfare and lower poverty rates.” Giggles aspires to be part of the solution to revitalize the community by offering access to free live theater.

Giggles Children’s Theater is located at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital, 2nd floor of the Seton Building, 703 Main Street, Paterson."

At the conclusion of our mini-show, we will be making a very special announcement:

WE WILL BE ANNOUNCING THIS YEAR’S RECITAL THEME

ADTNJ Workshop*

A dance workshop or convention is a series of dance classes, often taught by world renowned dancers, dance teachers, and choreographers. Classes are divided by age and a wide variety of dance styles are taught throughout the day. It is a fun, exciting, and challenging event that every dancer should experience at least once a year to help broaden her experience and talent.

Associated Dance Teachers of New Jersey has a long history of providing well-run conventions and workshops taught by some of the most sought out teachers in the country today. The Gotta Dance faculty frequently attends these conventions to expand their teaching repertoire and brings the Performance Team join in on the fun!
